Passion Rediscovered!

If there was one thing that I looked forward to while travelling by bus to college, it was reading books during the travel time. Whenever I used to read an unputdownable novel when travelling by bus in the morning, during the day, the only thought in my mind would be when I can I continue reading the book. πŸ™‚ During breaks between classes, whenever the lecturer gave a free period, during lunch or even when the lecturer pauses for a few minutes, my hands would instantly go for the book and even if it meant I would get the time to read just a few lines, I never missed the opportunity to continue reading the novel. πŸ™‚ I did the same thing in school too ever since my class 7! I used to manage my time efficiently between reading novels and attending classes. πŸ˜› But, things changed when I was in the latter part of my third year. The number of books that I read while travelling by bus reduced and I started sleeping in the bus. πŸ™ Earlier I used to hate sleeping in bus. Though I did read a few books in bus even during the final year of my college and during the past one year of my work, I never really read it with as much enthusiasm as earlier. Besides, the number of books that I read in the last 2 years is very less compared to earlier. I hardly read 15 books in the past 2 years!! πŸ™ I would partially blame my addiction to reading blogs for this!

But in the past few weeks, I have regained my passion for reading books while travelling. πŸ˜€ Read ‘Sense and Sensibility’ first. Then, read Michael Crichton’s β€˜State of Fear’. Currently reading Robin Cook’s β€˜Marker’. But unlike school and college, I don’t get to read the book during breaks or lunch these days and now there are no teachers to give me free periods. πŸ˜› I have to wait till I get into the bus in the evening to continue reading the book. πŸ™ Anyway, I am hoping I don’t ever lose this passion again and wait for long to rediscover it! πŸ™‚

P.S.: Before somebody points it out, let me say it myself. I know I have used a lot of ‘yellow dots’, read smileys in this post. πŸ˜‰

True…books padikardhliye thani sandhosham…Have read lots of books while travelling in Mumbai local trains…then slowly with PC at home/office reading was confined to e-books . Infact read all of HP series at office PC πŸ˜‰

Now have started reading books again…but nowadays doesnt have the same enthusiasm as b4..might b because of the type of books or doesnt have the same ‘veri’ to finish off the book in one sitting…

Anyways its good to have regained ur passion πŸ™‚

Could completely relate to this post Aparna, for I have written a similar one in my blog. You can find it here
But fortunately or unfortunately I am not an IT professional working in a company in the outskirts of the city to be mass transported in Air buses to catch up on some reading! Of late I am not finding any time for blogs leave alone books πŸ™ The last book I read was “The Kite Runner”. Quite a good read.

Well, I just have to be the lone dissenting voice here; reading in a jerking bus screws up your eyes and gives you a bad headache. Although,
I never listen to my advice,
Look at the glasses on my eyes!
And about the headache, oh please
It’s bad enough as it is.

seekarama nirutthunga and start reading reading books πŸ™‚

    Sami,
Even I used to read my subjects in bus but only during exams. I have not read any Tamil novel.
    >people commenting are putting that big yellow dots (smileys)
    Oh I didn’t observe that

    SK,
πŸ™‚ Hope you rediscover your passion for reading books soon!

    Sreekrishnan,
As elders say, it’s sad to see computer kaalam making people lose interest in reading books πŸ˜›
A good book and Rahman’s music make a great combo when you want to unwind after a tiring day πŸ™‚

    Ponnarasi,
    Yeah πŸ™‚

    Book reviews? Will try
    I don’t know whether it’s post script πŸ˜›

    Girish,
πŸ™‚ I don’t prefer reading e-books. The thrill in turning a page with your hand is missing in e-books πŸ˜‰
Hope you gain your enthu soon πŸ™‚

    Hari Prasad,
Will read your post later. Hmmm. I haven’t read Kite Runner yet.

    Daneel,
Well I don’t get a bad headache because of reading books in moving vehicles

If you read any interesting ones, Do you get any urge to immediately go blogging about it?

Last couple of weeks, I have been reading ‘India after Gandhi’ – its of that type unputdownable! Every page, chapter, i get some opinion on my throat, i want to spit it in my blog – but i am suppressing myself :))

Of couse, I am reading Windows Communication Foundation as well, but who cares that! πŸ™‚

there is nothing like rediscovering passion…at the same time the habit of reading also adds lot of value to oneself ..as you rightly said , it is important that this continues…and passions will keep going for a while unless distracted..happy reading.. πŸ™‚
