My Favourite Tamil Songs

My most favourite Tamil film song or for that matter my favourite in any category is Pachchai Nirame from Alaipayuthey. I don’t think there will come a time in my life when some other movie/song will fascinate me as much as Alaipayuthey/Pachchai Nirame did. I will be writing about it very soon.
Since I am now writing about the songs that I would like to repeatedly listen, watch and hum, I guess it will be a bit easier to choose the list of songs. (If I had to write about my favourite songs that I would like to just listen to repeatedly it would have been the most difficult thing to do).

Here goes my list of songs:

(All these come only after Pachchai Nirame)
Post 1990:
Pudhu Vellai Mazhai from Roja
Kadhal Rojave from Roja
Thee Thee from Thiruda Thiruda
Uyire from Bombay
Theendai from En Swaasa Katre (The Hampi ruins shown in this song never fail to amaze me)
Yaaro Yaarodi from Alaipayuthey
Kannaamoochi from Kandukondain Kandukondain
Suttum Vizhi Sudare from Ghajini (I guess this will be the only non-Rahman song)
Ooh La La La from Minsara Kanavu
Kikku Eruthey from Padaiyappa

In the 1980s:
Manram Vandha from Mouna Raagam
Something Something from Anjali
Anjali Anjali from Anjali

Now I move on to the golden oldies:
Aduthaatthu Ambujatthai from Ethir Neechal
Varavu Ettana from Bhama Vijayam
Malarndum Malaraadha from Paasa Malar
N.S.Krishnan’s song in the movie Chandrlekha
Onnula irundhu iruvathu varaiikkum kondattam – N.S.Krishnan’s song (don’t know the movie)

P.S.: Even as I was typing this list, one thing that struck me was when I think about songs that are well picturised I can think of only Mani’s songs and nobody else’s.

Paartha mudal naale song had a wonderful picturization too..esp the end..the way the camera zooms in and out was superb… tht one song clearly depicts the love the actor had for his wife…evrything seem to fall in place in tht song..

    Ferrari,
    I too like Veerapandi koattayile.

    Hell’s Angel,
I beg to differ. I didn’t like the picturisation of Paartha Mudhal Naale. In fact after seeing the song, I have lost interest in it….Btw, did u notice the sequence in the beach is exactly same as the one in ‘Hey Goodbye Nanba’?

That is why you didn’t find any song of MSV. There are looooots of songs of MSV and Maestro that I like(to listen to) very much!

Though I hardly know any Tamil, I have been avid fan of Mani Ratnam and A R Rahman. My first Tamil DVD was Alai Payuthey, which I have seen many many times and I like all its songs. I think the DVD is a must-have. Its songs, the acting and picturization is superb. I also have Roja, Bombay, Dil Se, Kondakondain…, Minsaru Kanavu and Kanathil…

I am eagerly awaiting the release of the Guru DVD. Any idea when it will be out ? I saw Guru the first day of its release here in CA.
