Dhaam Dhoom

To say that this movie was heights of kodumai would be an understatement! That was the opinion amongst all of us who watched this movie.

The only things that I liked in the entire movie were the lush green fields of the village and the locations of the song that came post-interval (Yaaro?) – the green mountains and then the temple (seemed like some Karnataka temple) and its tank. I absolutely loved the beautiful combination that the green mountains and the not-so-clear blue skies with some very nice shades of blue made! The blue water from which Ravi emerges unconscious looked nice too. Now that I have raved enough about nature’s beauty, let me move on to other things in the movie.

The song that came right in the beginning was so boring. That adhu sari part in the song – thaanga mudiyala! Within minutes after that song came, another song Aazhiyile which was nice – but then the tune sounded similar to too many songs! Just when I thought the movie was finally becoming interesting when ‘Jayam’ Ravi reaches Russia, there came another song! Three songs in the first half an hour of the movie and only one of those can be classified as being good!

Even after the song, considering the story line of this movie, it could have been a gripping movie. But then it turned out to be one which was hard to sit through.

Ravi escaping from the police car and managing to remain uncaught by the police even when they were following him in a car when he was riding just a cycle (!) were all romba over. And the bullet that enters his body when he is shot by the police! All he does is pour glucose or whatever all over his face and injects himself with some medicine and then he seems to become perfectly fit enough to start running again! That’s when you remember the fact that he is a doctor – Oh yeah he is a doctor in this movie!

After a point of time, the police don’t seem to be around anywhere when Ravi and Lakshmi Rai are roaming all around the city! This happening after the police following Lakshmi Rai to find Ravi! Duh!

Lakshmi Rai – Ravi romantic angle was totally unnecessary. And then the Ravi -Kangana Ranaut love story was another boring one. She saying that a feather that is flying somewhere in the air will come and fall on her open palm (!) since she knows she will get anything if she wishes for it and the feather flying onto her hand was too much!

Waiting to know your views on the movie! πŸ™‚

It is okay to have some forethought like Jules Verne and use fiction in movies. But, well, this isn’t fiction at all. It is not foreseeing things. Its is turning well established principles topsy turvy. A bullet removing a malignant tumour, and now pouring glucose over the face to heal a bullet wound!! Then, I guess there’s no need for doctors at all! Its getting weirder day by day. I guess, either those who direct the films are so dumb not to realize it or are merely taking the viewer’s ignorance for granted.

After all, a good movie need not necessarily talk about the impossible things right? Art is all about conveying ordinary things extraordinarily. Doing it the other way about – conveying the extraordinarily impossible things as being perfectly possible only exasperates the viewers, atleast it does that to me!

i think they would have lost the plot after jeeva’s demise …
thats the only logic behind this fiasco which i thought would be a great one atleast for this summer which was horrible for the kollywood .. all flops coming out .. πŸ™
can you please tell me the runtime of the movie ?? especially since the promo was too long

p.s: i saw the promo when i was watching Dark knight and there were few foreigners and they thought it was a short film πŸ˜›

    Swat,
Welcome to my blog πŸ™‚ Hope you didn’t watch the movie πŸ˜‰ Btw, I started reading your blog only recently

    Arvind,
Lucky you! I wish I had rejected too πŸ˜‰

    Tweety,
When the tickets were booked, I didn’t even know that the movie was releasing only on that day! Do let me know whether you liked it (though I am sure you won’t like it πŸ˜‰ ) Twitter? I totally forgot there is something like that πŸ™‚

    Sathej,
    >>conveying the extraordinarily impossible things as being perfectly possible only exasperates the viewers
It doesn’t exasperate me most of the times.

    Prasad,
Had I gone for night show, I guess I would have fallen asleep right there instead of watching the movie πŸ˜‰ I do know it’s Baba mantram thanks to all those in the theatre shouting Baaaabaaaaaa all through the scene πŸ™‚

    Suriya,
Yeah everything was total kodumai. I think I got confused between yaaro & some other song. Anyway the locales were superb in that song feat. Kangana & Jayam Ravi.

I watch only a few movies generally. So no idea abt Jayamkondan. In case you have watched it by now, do let me know how it is. Since it is directed by Mani Ratnam’s asst. director, I would like to know how it is.

    Aravind,
naan Sam Anderson movie paatthadhu illa (pakkardhaavum illa πŸ˜‰ ) So can’t say πŸ˜›

    Vishnu,
It’s 2.5-hr movie. Someone told me before the movie started that it was a 3-hr movie. Thank God it wasn’t!

    LOL at the P.S.! πŸ™‚

    Sreekrishnan,
It was a team outing. So I had to go. Otherwise I would not have watched it at all. Besides, we had no clue at all that it would be so bad!

No idea about those 2 movies. naan Wall E innum paakkala. What about you?

it was as bad as unnale unnale …
i couldn’t stand it to the last bit … completely inspired by more than 5 english movies, including the bourne series and brad pitt’s seven (the climax part)

ullam ketkume (although blatantly copying scenes from american pie) was jeeva’s best in terms of content … but visually, dhaam dhoom is jeeva’s best …

btw forgot to mention, when ravi jumps from a building with the indian flag fying in the background … u tend to visualise a lot but he ends up being shot (mokkai to the core) !!!

    abarna,
Welcome to my blog! I wonder what makes you ask questions like this!

    Dinesh,
I haven’t watched both Unnale Unnale & Ullam Ketkume.

Yes! But then the whole movie itself was total mokkai!
