Even though most of the concerts that you go to may be excellent ones, still there will be only a few special ones that will remain etched in your memory forever. This concert was one such. You should have been there to experience the magic of Sanjay’s singing!

This is the first time I am listening to Nattakurunji varnam live in Sanjay’s concert. Though I was slightly disappointed that he didn’t sing the lyrics for the swarams in the varnam, yet the joy of listening to the varnam drowned the disappointment. ๐Ÿ˜‰ The Asaveri swarams were too good.

If the Nagagandhari made me go wow, the Bowli had me mesmerized. What can I say about the Nattakurunji! Amazing! The Shubhapantuvarali Kumudakriya, that lasted only for a few minutes, left one wishing for more! Then the Sindhu Bhairavi series – nijagadasa and idhuvo tillai – classic Sanjay stuff!

Nagai Muralidharan, Guruvayoor Dorai & Neyveli Venkatesh were great as usual.

Thanks to this concert, the Sunday ended on a high for me. ๐Ÿ™‚ Can’t wait for this week to end since that’s when Sanjay’s next concert is (coming Saturday)! ๐Ÿ˜‰

I attended this concert. I liked it, but was a bit disappointed that no piece received elaborate treatment. There was no proper sub-main or main piece. I liked the RTP, but he had to hurry a lot.

    Hi Aparna,
Thanks for the posting, so that maverick Sanjay fans like me (who had to miss due to “domestic duties”:-)) can atleast catch a glimpse of what he sang.

Could you please post details of upcoming Sanjay concerts in Chennai?

    Regards

    Suriya,
Considering how so awesome each and every piece was, to be honest, I didnโ€™t care if there was a proper sub-main or not. But yeah I guess this is probably the first Sanjayโ€™s concert in the last few months in which there was no proper sub-main.

    Sami,
๐Ÿ™‚ I too hope I can continue doing it ๐Ÿ™‚

    Madhusudhanan,
๐Ÿ˜› Yes Mani rulez! I hope he finishes his next movie soon!

    Sridhar,
๐Ÿ™‚ Upcoming Sanjayโ€™s concerts are listed in Sanjay’s blog (http://sanjaysub.blogspot.com) itself. Also check out http://ramsabode.wordpress.com/concerts-in-chennai for all the upcoming concerts in Chennai.

Well, to a certain extent, yes. He filled in a number of pieces within the time available. But, it was quite wholesome. Wouldn’t complain too much. Nagagandhari Alapanai, a few smart Kanakkus in Bowli and the Pallavi singing were very good and reflected his Vidwat quite a deal. Nagagandhari was the pick for me (the Pallavi rendition – a close second). Its really nice even now ๐Ÿ™‚

And Nagai Muralidharan was absolutely amazing that day. I knew of his calibre (listening to his excellent replies in TNS concerts of the 80s – a commercial Krishna Gana Sabha concert in 86 with nearly a 1.5 hour Krishnam Bhaja with Kanakku galore comes to mind). But well, on Sunday he was simply excellent. His replies were sometimes spell binding and so quick that I was reminded of MSG’s reputation for immediate responses. Rather challenging Brigas by Sanjau were met with consummate ease by him.

Oops! I did have a doubt about whether it was Shubhapantuvarali or not since to me also it sounded just Shubhapantuvarali-ish & not proper Shubhapantuvarali. I am correcting it right away. Thanks!
