Thanks a lot for reminding this song.. the play list keeps growing as well as the need to get new cd’s.. π
the Rahman post is out !!
is Velli Malarey and Ghanan Ghanan from Lagaan of the Same Raaga ? Inotice lot of similarities ….need an expert insight !!
Siva,
π
Sreekrishnan,
I too notice a lot similarities. Am not sure about the raaga. But, if you notice, the beats of the both the songs are exactly the same!
yes – the tune also towards the end is Lagaan tune !!
My favorite song.. cha I’ll be singing that all day now.. π
The first signs of a new voice in A R Rahman – The first time we heard it we couldnt believe it was Rahman singing! Undoubtedly the best song he’s sung himself (along with Dil Se Re)… Again, only the magician Mani Ratnam can get this out of him!
Bharath,
I agree with everything you have said except for the best song he’s sung π I sometimes feel ‘Yeh Jo Des Hai Tera’ is his best….Difficult to call one song as the best!
Ach – You caught me there… Hmm Ye Jo Des Tera, Humma Humma, Tere Bina, even something very rarely heard like New York Nagaram… And of course Vande Mataram…
Why I feel Vellai Pookal is his best is coz it was the first time he had moved from screaming out his songs (Humma Humma et al) to a soft melodious song… And more often than not the first song sticks…
Bharath,
Yeah his voice did sound like never before in VeLLai pookkaL
