What a shopping experience it was!

I have made you all wait for really long time to know where I finally shopped after that forgettable experience at Naidu Hall. I guess some of you would have wondered if I even did any shopping or not. πŸ˜‰ Time has now come to finally end the suspense. πŸ˜›

Mokshaa, the shop at Cathedral Road, the road which now seems to have become a sort of hub for designer saree shopping with so many designer sarees shops having come up there, is where I finally did shopping. We had been planning on checking out this shop for quite sometime. So my Mom, sister and I went there on a Saturday morning. At that time, little did I know that I would eventually end up spending more than 3 hours at that shop on that day itself!

Sarees were in 1st and 2nd floors, with the 1st floor having silk, silk cotton, tussar silk, cotton etc. and the 2nd floor having georgette and other synthetic designer sarees. We went to the 1st floor first. The moment we entered, a lady asked us the usual what kind of sarees we wanted to see. This time I was ready with my answer. πŸ˜›

Silk cotton was what I wanted to see first. Silk cotton sarees were hanging from the hangers right in the middle of the floor. So we actually wouldn’t have needed the help of salespersons to see it. But that’s where the excellent customer service at this shop comes in. The lady there right away started taking out sarees, each having different type of work done, and started showing those to us. The silk cotton sarees were priced upwards of 3K.

After showing some 3-4 sarees, she took a pink saree which had kicha weaving done (I didn’t have any idea that there was something called kicha weaving till I saw this saree) and asked me to try it out. I have been on search for a dark pink saree/salwar kameez ever since seeing RMKV’s beautiful pink nalangu saree in its ad a few years back. Though for a second, I started wondering if the pink saree she showed me was like what is usually referred to as mittai rose: P, I fell for it immediately after trying it out. πŸ˜‰ None of the other 4-5 remaining silk cotton sarees except a maroon and black uppada one with copper work done impressed us that much. So we moved on to seeing Benares silk sarees next.

From that moment on, while on the one hand we were seeing so many beautiful sarees, we were also getting to know a lot about different designer works. My knowledge level about designer work has improved a lot after shopping at Mokshaa. πŸ˜‰ Antique and copper work, jute, silk thread with jute finish, Meenakari, uppada, the usual kundan, zardozi and lots more! Not even a single saree was too gaudy or flashy and the workmanship was neat. Zari was not even there in many sarees. Simple yet elegant would be the words that I would associate with each and every saree. I absolutely loved the collection there.

Everything about the sarees was great, except the price. πŸ˜‰ The silk sarees were a bit too expensive. Thankfully, there was a discount on silk sarees. I think the starting price was around 5K. That is after the discount of course. Without the discount, I would say some of the sarees are really a bit over-priced.

At the end of almost an hour of seeing saree after saree, we had to finally ask the salesperson to stop taking out any more sarees, lest our confusion about which saree to buy increases further! While I didn’t want to let that pink saree go so easily, a part of me wanted to get a mustard yellow Benares silk saree with meenakari work done throughout. The meenakari work was so beautiful! But that saree was too expensive – 7K! (The original price of it was 9K+!) I just didn’t have the heart to spend so much on a saree. So I got the pink one and my sister got a dark green Benares silk saree having silk thread work with jute and copper finish. 6.5K+ was the price of the green saree. For the workmanship of that saree, we felt the price was reasonable.

Silk thread with jute and copper finish:

After buying these two sarees, the saleslady there wanted us to see some more of their exclusive collection just so that we would get an idea of all that were available there. Talk about marketing strategies! πŸ˜‰ And thus we ended up spending a few minutes seeing everything from cotton to tussar to ordinary silk sarees and even sarees that were priced upwards of 25K!

We came back home very contented after the unforgettable shopping experience and I was planning on spending the rest of the day just relaxing at home when my friend said she was going to Nalli Next to get a saree for her wedding reception. I wanted to check out that shop and went with her. But since there weren’t that many sarees at Nalli Next, we went to Mokshaa.

I again ended up spending more than an hour at Mokshaa and got to see more of the saree collection there. But this time it was Kanchipuram silk with, of course, designer work done. Madhubani, Kalamkari, tissue and more of antique and copper work, meenakari and kundan followed. My friend too liked the collection there. She found choosing between two sarees, that she liked very much, so tough that she ended up buying both! One was a tissue silk saree with little zari and Madhubani work done. Other was a silk with zari and antique work in copper.

After seeing a major part of the silk saree collection at Mokshaa, I have been raving non-stop about this shop to everyone. πŸ˜‰ Do check out this shop if you want to get pretty designer sarees but wouldn’t mind spending a few extra Ks for it. πŸ˜‰

P.S.: God knows whether you want to read lengthy posts or not. But these days, I just cannot resist from writing lengthy posts. πŸ˜›
