T.M.Krishna’s Todi

There is a saying in Tamil that goes ‘vilagi poanaal virumbi varum’. Well that’s how it has been with me and T.M.Krishna’s Todi! Todi turns out to be the main raagam in most of his concerts that I go for. And the worst part is that I miss many of his concerts where Todi is not the main. I missed the concert where he sang Sahana RTP too! 🙁 Before you start off saying that his Todi is excellent, etc., etc., having listened to way too many Todis of his, I know it very well too. Yet I am just not interested in listening to Todi in every other concert! Just last Saturday, he sang a RTP in Todi in a concert, which, by the way, was superb (That concert deserves a separate post. I will write about it soon). So I least expected Todi to be the main raagam in yesterday’s concert. But when that is exactly what happened, I left the concert the moment he started the Todi alapana.

What’s your name?

Well that is supposed to be the question that all of us ask when we meet someone for the first time. But imagine knowing a person for more than a year and talking with her regularly and still not knowing her name at all! She comes in my bus and her stop is same as mine. I had been chatting with her while waiting for the bus all these days, till it recently struck me one day that I didn’t know her name at all! When I asked the others in the stop, they too didn’t know! They forgot it seems. After knowing a person for such a long time, the very thought of asking what her name is, was too embarrassing. I finally managed to see her ID card today and got to know her name!

What say?

I was chatting with my friend and she said that she read my post on sarees. She was surprised that many guys had read that post and commented and then this is what she had to say:

“they still had the patience to read the post abt designer sarees
seems they are not as bored of sarees as we think”

I now want to know what you guys have to say about her last statement. 😛 And while I am at it, let me thank you all for patiently reading my post on sarees. 😉

Wedding Receptions

After sarees, here’s more on wedding receptions. Wanted to write some post but right now, I am not able to think of anything else to write.

If there is one place where queues are followed properly by everybody, it has to be only the wedding receptions! Go home from work. Get ready in a hurry. Reach the kalyana mandapam fighting the traffic jam everywhere. Stand in a queue for a minimum of 10-15 minutes. Wish the couple, give the gift, pose for a photo and go straight to dinner hall.

iru vizhiyin vazhiye

iru vizhiyin vazhiye from the movie Siva – Excellent singing by SPB and Chitra, nice beats, wonderful flute & trumpet (?) interludes, typical Ilaiyaraja song. The interludes in Hamsadhwani raagam are beautiful. Super song! Can’t stop listening to it!

Designer Sarees – The Changing Trend in Chennai

The months of April-June seem to be the months of weddings what with one friend after another getting married! I don’t think I have ever gone for as many weddings as I have during the past couple of months! The one thing that is surely changing or rather has changed in Chennai is the popularity of silk sarees especially among youngsters.

Guys, you are most welcome to skip this post unless you want to read it for educational purposes like this person here. 😛

Jashn-E-Bahaaraa

When the caller tune is Jashn-E-Bahaaraa, who will complain when a friend doesn’t answer the call? 😉 I didn’t even have the heart to cut the call even though she didn’t answer. 😛 And guess what I am doing now? Listening to the instrumental version of Jashn-E-Bahaaraa on repeat mode! 😀 What a beautiful song! Rahman rocks!

Sanjay on Ragamalika

For all those fans of Sanjay Subrahmanyan out there, in case you are not aware, he is one the judges for the finals of Ragamalika – the show on Jaya TV. Yesterday was the first episode of the finals. It will go on for another couple of weeks I guess. I started watching the show only after the first participant had started singing. By the way, that participant sang quite well and that was the reason why I paused channel surfing. Little did I expect to see Sanjay as the judge! Srinivas was the other judge. I have watched many shows where Srinivas was the judge and I have always found him to be a good judge.

As far as I know, generally, it’s only the judge who is a non-classical musician who sings/performs before the competition starts. But, it has been quite a long time since I last watched Ragamalika and I have no idea how it is nowadays. So, can anybody who watched the first segment of the show please tell me if by any chance, Sanjay sang anything in the first segment? Also please tell me what Srinivas sang. Thanks!
